Psalms & Stretches Instructor Network

Kirsten has a wide range of experience teaching dance to people of all ages, from youth groups to care homes. She studied at Performing Arts Studio Scotland, graduating with a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Performing Arts and a Higher National Diploma in Dance, and was also a Zumba fitness instructor. Kirsten was inspired to become a Psalms & Stretches instructor because of the holistic approach to wellbeing – the idea of facilitating and creating space for people to relax and meditate on God’s Word as well as to nurture their physical strength and mobility. Kirsten is also a Massage Therapist and her work in complementary therapies, as well as for the NHS, have informed her restorative approach to wellness, an approach that is gentle, caring and God-centred. We couldn’t think of better qualities for a P&S instructor and we are so excited to have Kirsten as our first instructor in Scotland!

Ruth Carpenter, a qualified Pilates and fitness instructor with a background in contemporary dance, developed Psalms & Stretches as the "class she’s always wanted to go to". Ruth felt called to combine her skills in teaching movement with her desire to worship and serve God in a creative way, and has been honing the programme over the last few years teaching Psalms & Stretches in her local church and for Christian events across the country.

Ruth completed her BA(Hons) in Dance Theatre at Trinity Laban, with further studies at The Northern School of Contemporary Dance as part of an apprenticeship with a dance theatre company, Tilted Productions. Whilst initially still working with several independent dance artists, poets and visual artists since graduating, over the next few years Ruth began her journey into the fitness industry. As dance took a back seat in her career, Ruth invested in her range of skills by completing a wide variety of fitness teacher training programmes. From Kangoo Jumps, whom she represented on an episode of ITV's Loose Women, to Barre Fitness - a ballet-inspired workout - to more recently completing an aerial fitness course with CircusFit, Ruth is passionate about movement education. Ruth specialised in Pilates (training with Stott Pilates), having experienced the benefits first-hand during her professional dance training and, along with dance, believes it to be an invaluable influence which informs her whole approach to movement. She has now been teaching Pilates for 10 years, teaching mostly private workplace classes for several Government buildings in Westminster and in the corporate sector in Bank, London. Psalms & Stretches is her offering, a way of using her skills for the glory of God. She is also a qualified Sports Massage Therapist.
